Have you ever had a conversation with someone and knew that it would be your last? I have.
It was about six weeks ago, before a dear friend of mine passed from a long battle with cancer. He was a coach and a lifelong learner. He was smart, kind, generous, and genuinely wanted others to have the best life possible.
When two coaches meet for a moment like that, tough questions are going to get asked.
I asked him…
“Knowing now that the end is coming, what matters most?”
“I can tell you that with absolute certainty. Nothing matters except my friends and family. That’s all I want is friends and family.”
He passed four days later.
I know we’ve all been told that the best things in life are free. But they aren’t. The best things in life can’t be bought. They have to be earned. Relationships with your friends and family are earned with the currency of your love, time, focus, and attention. They are priceless.
The best things in life aren’t free. They can’t be bought. They have to be earned.
