Dear Life,
You taught me a lot in 2025. The lessons were plentiful, and I am still sorting through them. But one has stood above all, and it’s so important I wanted to send you this letter to share that I finally got it. Every day begins at zero, and you owe me nothing.
This idea was profoundly stamped on my head and heart when I read this quote from Steven Pressfield’s bestselling book The War of Art.
“The warrior and the artist live by the same code of necessity, which dictates that the battle must be fought anew every day.”
You don’t owe me longevity, safety, relationships, health, wealth, experiences, fairness, nothing. I realize my expectations have zero authority over you, and I am entitled to nothing. I understand that I am in your classroom, you are my teacher, and everything that happens is for the evolution of my consciousness. I accept whatever lessons and learning you have in store for me.
The Stoics called this acceptance amor fati, which means to love and embrace everything that happens in life, both good and bad, seeing it all as necessary and even desirable. It’s not just tolerating hardship but actively saying “yes” to life, using challenges as fuel for growth, and finding happiness in accepting reality rather than fighting it.
I know you are indifferent to my feelings. My feelings are my own and are irrelevant to you. You are equal parts brutal and beautiful. You prey on the weak. You kick people when they’re down and often seem amoral. You also give generously, magnify love, and create unexplainable miracles. It’s not my job to understand you but to acknowledge you.
Every day starts at zero. You owe me nothing. And each day will begin with a resounding “yes”.
I’m not writing this as an act of defiance or rebellion. This is not an invitation for you to unleash holy hell. You aren’t going to get a middle finger or a spiteful challenge from me. Just a simple act of humility to acknowledge the power you hold, coupled with a readiness to embrace whatever you have in store for the rest of my days.
I will show up, do the work, and go home. A blue collar work ethic married to an indomitable will. I am 1000% committed to helping myself and others live freed.
Jordan
