One of the most powerful questions we can ask ourselves is this: Does the version of me that can make my dreams come true need to be discovered… or designed?
The answer? It’s both.
There are parts of you that came pre-programmed—hardwired, built-in.
Examples:
Energy (Introverted / Extroverted)
Decision Style (Intuitive / Analytical)
Pace (Fast-moving / Methodical)
This is discovery. This is nature. The process of discovering and accepting our nature can be a little tricky. Just like you can’t train a lion to be a vegetarian, there are certain facets of your personality that probably aren’t going to change.
Wisdom and acceptance are our friends here.
But then there’s the other side—what you can influence, control, and change.
Habits (Reactive / Intentional)
Beliefs (Limiting / Empowering)
Self-Talk (Critical / Constructive)
This is design. This is nurture. As humans, we’re given a lot of choice. We may not always be aware of it—but we get to design ourselves.
Think of it like this: Your nature is the hand of cards you were dealt. You didn’t choose it.
But your nurture is how you play those cards.
It’s the mindset you forge, the habits you build, and the beliefs you install over time.
Some people get aces. Some get 7s and 2s.
But we’ve all seen people win with so-called “bad hands”—not because of luck, but because they learned to play.
That’s what I love about coaching. My job is to help people make their dreams come true. I do that by first earning the right to see their hand.
It’s not easy to let someone else see what you’re working with—and I don’t take the responsibility lightly. But once I’ve seen their hand, I help them play the hell out of it.
Because here’s the truth: You don’t need a perfect hand. You need clarity on what you’ve got, belief in what’s possible, and a strategy to play bold and smart from where you are.
Not someday.
Not for someone else.
For you.
And it starts the moment you stop wishing for different cards—and start playing yours with everything you’ve got.
