I’ll never forget when I read the quote “Energy is the X factor that ignites all talent and skill.”
I found it in the book “The Power of Full Engagement” by Jim Loehr. I agree with that quote but I’ve altered it a little bit and find this to be equally true…
“Clarity is the X factor that ignites all talent and skill.”
I find that most people don’t fully understand the power of clarity. Either because they’ve never truly experienced it or because they don’t understand that it isn’t caught like a cold. It’s produced through a process.
Imagine you were working away at your desk when you received an odd phone call from a number that seemed familiar but you didn’t recognize. You stop what you’re doing and answer the call.
“Hello”
“Hi, this is Sally. I am God’s personal assistant. Hold please for God.”
“Uhhh ok.”
“Good morning. Is this Jordan?”
“Yes”
“Delightful. I am calling because I would like to give you the opportunity of a lifetime. Are you available this coming Monday for about an hour to 90 minutes?”
“What for?”
“I want you to come up to heaven and use the computer I used to design the world to design your ideal life. It’s a pretty powerful machine but it’s easy to use. Don’t worry, I won’t keep you here, you’ll go back to Earth. Are you up for that?”
“Yes. Thank you.”
“Perfect. Now I don’t allow second appointments. You get one shot at this. 90 minutes tops to design your life exactly how you would like. So show up prepared.”
“Ok. Thank you!”
“You’re welcome. Last thing, once you’re done it takes my 3D printer anywhere between 24 to 36 months to print what you requested. You have one job during that time. Think, feel, and act as if it’s already yours. When you land back on Earth, carry yourself like someone who knows exactly what’s coming. Anything less and you risk jamming the printer. Can you do that?”
“Yes.”
“Perfect. See you Monday.”
Here’s the real question. If you had three to four days before that appointment what would you do to prepare? What process would you follow to make the most of that appointment? Would you write? Call everyone you love? Rent a cabin in the woods and think deeply?
Whatever that process is, take it as seriously as you would if you had this once in a lifetime opportunity. What you’ll receive on the other side of that process is radical clarity. There is nothing that burns brighter than a mind on fire with radical clarity. Clarity is the X factor that ignites all talent and skill.
